Two people rescued after falling into a structure in Ceredo, WV

CEREDO, WV - Two people were rescued after falling inside a 70-80 foot structure in Ceredo, West Virginia, in Wayne County.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Jim Cooper of the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department, who responded to the scene, the call came in at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the flood wall behind Austin's Ice Cream, located at C Street and 4th Street.

Cooper says a woman fell 70-80 feet through the grating of the structure, which contains two valves that are used for the flood wall system , in which her friend, a man, tried to get her out, but also fell into the structure.

Both were rescued shortly after 11 p.m. and were both taken to St. Mary's Medical Center with unknown injuries.  Their names are not yet known.

Along with the Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department, the Kenova Volunteer Fire Department responded, along with the Ceredo City Police Department, Kenova Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff's Office, and the West Virginia State Police Wayne Detachment.
