The West Virginia State Police is asking for the public's help to find the person who struck a State Trooper on the West Virginia Turnpike early Thursday morning.

Trooper First Class D.R. White of the Turnpike Detachment had stopped to pick up debris that was in the middle of the roadway at around 5:12 a.m., June 19. According to a news release from the WVSP, officials believe White was struck by the passenger side mirror of a passing vehicle. He was treated and released from a local hospital the same day.

The incident happened in the northbound lanes of the turnpike just past the Athens exit. White activated had his light bar with directional signals indicating drivers should move left when he stopped his vehicle. The driver of the vehicle that struck White did not stop to help him, but White crawled back to his vehicle to call for medical help

The incident is under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.  Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Turnpike Detachment at 304-256-6786. West Virginia and Virginia law calls for drivers to move over for emergency vehicles.
