HUNTINGTON, WV - Five men were arrested in connection with a series of robberies in Huntington, WV.

According to a criminal complaint issued by the Cabell County Magistrate Court, 23-year-old Douglas Garland Champeon, 41-year-old Juamada Keeler Anderson, and 34-year-old James Sterba, all from Huntington, were arrested in connection to a robbery that occurred on June 10 at the Rich Oil, Co. Gas station, along 16th Street Road near Green Valley Road, as well as conspiring to rob the same place on June 18.

Also, 17-year-old Patrick Jaymes McCluney, of Kingtown, NC, and 26-year-old Derek Allen Byrd, of Huntington, were arrested for two counts of first degree robbery of a Speedway, on 3rd Avenue, in Huntington, which occurred on May 27 and June 4.

The complaint said that Champion, Anderson, and Sterba all conspired to rob the Rich Oil Co. Gas station on June 18, which had also been robbed by Champeon and Anderson, on June 10, where a pistol was used.

Sterba told police that Anderson would be the driver in the June 18 robbery, and that both he and Champeon would commit the robbery, in which they would steal multiple cartons of cigarettes and cash.

Champeon told police that after this would happen, that they would split the items three different ways, just like the June 10 robbery.  Champeon also told police that Anderson would be waiting for them near Hite-Saunders Elementary School, which is also near Rich Oil, Co.

All three were arrested near this school on June 18 by troopers with the West Virginia State Police, as well as the Huntington Police Department.

McCluney and Byrd robbed the Speedway shortly before midnight on May 27, as well as shortly before 1:30 a.m. on June 4, in which they threatened an employee with a firearm, demanding money and cigarettes.  Both were covered with bandannas and fled Speedway with an unknown amount of money and several cartons of cigarettes.

All five are being held in the Western Regional Jail.  Champion, Anderson, Sterba, and Byrd's bonds are set at $100,000, while McCluney's bond is set at $150,000.

Additional charges are pending on Champeon, Anderson, and Sterba, who according to the criminal complaint, may also have been involved in the Speedway robberies.
