The Dallas-based Southern Gas Association presented the Chairman’s Award for Environmental Excellence to Columbia Pipeline Group at the organization’s Environmental, Safety & Health and Training Conference in Tampa, Florida June 24.

Combined with its operation of Millennium Pipeline Company, the CPG companies deliver more than 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas per year. In West Virginia alone, CPG pipelines stretch more than 2,526 miles and the company employs 457 people, as of February 2013.

CPG was selected for their comprehensive work displayed with its Habitat Conservation Plan, which is designed to streamline compliance with the Endangered Species Act, while enhancing species conservation using a single comprehensive environmental plan across the company’s natural gas pipeline network.

The HCP covers a one-mile wide corridor surrounding pipelines under CPG’s Columbia Gas Transmission, Columbia Gulf Transmission and Crossroads Pipeline systems, collectively covering more than 15,000 linear miles and 9 million acres in 14 states, including West Virginia.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Southern Gas Association with their highest distinction for environmental excellence,” said Shawn Patterson, CPG president of operations and project delivery. “Being good stewards of the environment is something we take seriously every day and our Habitat Conservation Plan is a testament to that.”
