Branch at MCAS Miramar Earns Honor for Credit Union

VIENNA, Va., July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Navy Federal Credit Union announced today that it earned the Best Credit Union Award from Military Saves for the second year in a row. The credit union's branch located at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar received the honor for Navy Federal, actively promoting responsible savings practices to members of the U.S. armed forces and their families.

While many financial institutions applied for the award, the Navy Federal Miramar team earned the honor based on its comprehensive support offered to MCAS Miramar during Military Saves Week in late February. The branch conducted budget and debt management workshops, spoke with servicemembers at informational tables located throughout the base, and even offered a monetary donation to the MCAS Miramar Kid's Store in support of the Military Saves effort. The branch team reached well over 1,000 servicemembers and their families through these activities.

"Supporting the financial wellness of our U.S. armed forces is something that each of our branches strives to do, every day," said Evangeline Miranda, branch manager of Navy Federal's branch at MCAS Miramar. "The award shows that we are staying true to our mission of helping U.S. servicemembers and their families in their financial lives."

"As an advocate for consumers and their financial well-being, we applaud all that Military Saves and Navy Federal have accomplished this year," said Stephen Brobeck, executive director at Consumer Federation of America. "Navy Federal is well-deserving of this award, and we know they will continue their good efforts to support the military and all consumers."

Navy Federal is the only financial institution in the large credit union category to receive this award from Military Saves. The inaugural Military Saves Best Credit Union award was announced in 2013, recognizing the Navy Federal Parris Island branch for its contributions during Military Saves Week.
