Update:

Wilmington Police are charging West Virginia University running back Wendell Smallwood with a felony count of active intimidation to prevent a victim or witness from causing a complaint.

This is in connection to a murder case in Wilmington, Del.

Smallwood tried to intimidate a witness at the request of his friend Zakee Lloyd, according to Wilmington Police.  Lloyd is charged with first-degree murder in the April, 2012 shooting death of Manuel Oliveras, 51, of Wilmington.

Lloyd asked Smallwood to get a witness to change a statement about the case, according to Wilmington Police.

Wilmington Police arrested Lloyd in January, 2013.  Smallwood was arrested in March and May, 2013, in connection to the case, before WVU Police arrested him on July 14.

Smallwood is in the North Central Regional Jail.  Following Smallwood's extradition to Delaware Thursday, he was arraigned in Wilmington and released after posting $40,000 secured bail.

There's no word at this time on Smallwood's standing with the WVU football team.
