UPDATE:

According to a news release issued by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the names have been released of the three victims killed and one who was injured in a three vehicle crash on Route 10 near Chapmanville, WV.

The victims who were killed have been identified as 27-year-old Eddie Mullins, of Chapmanville, 39-year-old Terry Fowler, also of Chapmanville, and police believe the third victim to be 38-year-old Michael Johnson, of Harts, WV.  45-year-old Dewanna Dalton was taken to the hospital for serious injuries.

The news release says that Mullins was driving a 2002 Chevy Malibu with Fowler and Johnson as passengers traveling northbound on Route 10 in the Stone Branch area near Chapmanville.  Mullins nearly came into contact with 34-year-old Shane Hoosier, of Harts, who was driving southbound and had to move off the road and grazed a guardrail.

Mullins did not come into contact with Hoosier, however, Mullins continued driving into the southbound lane into the path of Dalton, who was driving a 2005 Chevy Z71 Silverado truck, striking Dalton head-on.

The news release says Dalton was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital for serious injuries.  However, Mullins, Fowler, and an unknown man believed to be Johnson were pronounced dead at the scene.  The body believed to be of Johnson was taken to the WV Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification.  The news release goes on to say the relatives of the deceased have been notified.

Sheriff Sonya M. Dingess Porter issued a statement saying “speed may have played a factor into this crash according to deputies.”

The crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE:

Three people died in a crash involving a car and a pick-up truck on Route 10 near Chapmanville, West Virginia.

The Logan County Sheriffs Office says that all three people who died were riding in the car. The driver of the truck was flown to CAMC in Charleston in critical condition.

The accident is still being investigated, but officials say that speed was definitely a contributing factor.

Neighbors who live along Route 10 say accidents like this happen frequently. "I've lived here for two years and seen probably 10 or 12 wrecks" says Morty McCoy, a man who lives just feet from the scene of Thursday's fatal accident.

The Logan County Sheriffs Office has a plan to slow down the number of wrecks that happen on the county road. Deputy Derrick Miller tells us that "we have upped patrols in the area to try to stop the speeding".

The goal is to up police patrols in hopes of stopping those who plan on speeding or drinking and driving.

The names of those who died in Thursday morning's accident have not been released yet.

We will keep you updated with the latest on this situation as information becomes available.
