A Charleston, West Virginia man has been arrested after deputies say he stole an ATV and led them on a chase.

Michael Lloyd Paxton, 40,  is charged with fleeing, grand larceny, breaking and entering, and receiving or transferring stolen property, all felonies.

According to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, a homeowner reported a breaking and entering at a home on Newhouse Branch Road. The homeowner told the responding deputy that an ATV had been stolen.

A short time later, the ATV was spotted by a friend of the homeowner near Cooper's Creek Road.

A deputy responded to the area and found Paxton driving the ATV.  After following the ATV with lights and sirens activated, Paxton pulled into the parking lot of a Speedway gas station in Elkview.  According to the news release, Paxton then pulled off the parking lot, nearly striking a pedestrian.

Paxton then drove the ATV out Will's Creek Road for approximately four miles before crashing the ATV into the creek.  The deputy went after Paxton, used his Taser and then handcuffed and arrested him.

Paxton was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked at Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and then arraigned at Kanawha County Magistrate Court.  His bond was set at $25,000 and he was taken to South Central Regional Jail.
