Mercer County WV Courthouse main building closed because of a bomb threat

A bomb threat has led to the closure of the main building of the Mercer County Courthouse Aug. 6, according to a news release from the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals.

Additionally, the offices of Judge Derek Swope, Judge William Sadler and the Circuit Clerk also are closed for the day Aug. 6, but all other judicial offices are open.

Mercer County Sheriff Don Meadows said the threat came in the form of a note, and the building was evacuated as a precaution at about 11 a.m. and shut down the road in front of the courthouse. Meadows said the building was reopened about 30 minutes later.
