WASHINGTON, WV -

Linda Howell Skidmore, media relations coordinator at Davis & Elkins College, recently attended the Council of Independent Colleges' 2014 media conference at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, D.C.

The June 25-27 event featured journalists from ABC, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today and other national news sources.

Skidmore, the award-winning former editor of Elkins' Inter-Mountain, learned how to enhance national news coverage of private schools and that the stories of D&E are significant to higher education reporters.

Skidmore joined the college staff as a part-timer in 2012 and moved to full-time coverage of the college last year.

During her 22 years at the newspaper, her work was repeatedly recognized by The Associated Press and the West Virginia Press Association.

A graduate of Elkins High School, Skidmore first attended Wheeling Jesuit University, and then completed her bachelor's degree in mass communications of journalism at West Liberty University.
