Clendenin Recovery

Betty Taylor has lived in Clendenin all her life. Since the flood damaged her home she has since been living in a mobile home but says she just wants her house back.

“At first, I was hoping it would be Thanksgiving or Christmas, but now it’s not going to be Thanksgiving so I’d like to shoot for Christmas if I could.”

With the winter months ahead of us and colder temperatures setting in, Taylor says she isn’t relocating.

“I have no plans other than staying here because this is all I have.”

Folks like Betty in temporary housing say they’re just grateful to have a roof over their head.

“I feel very fortunate that I have this place to live in. A lot of people don’t have very much.”

The mayor of Clendenin, Gary Bledsoe says even though growth has happened in the town, folks still need help.

“The town of Clendenin is progressing real well, we’ve got a lot of work to do, we’ve done a lot of work but we still got a lot of work to do,” says Bledsoe.

Bledsoe says volunteers are still coming into the community and helping and says he’s satisfied with the work that has been done.

If you would like to volunteer you can call Mike Shinn at 304-539-9399.
