UPDATE: Roane County Sheriff-Elect Resigns from Position with Spencer Police Department



According to the Spencer Police Department, Roane County, WV Sheriff-Elect Matthew Williams has resigned from his position with the Spencer Police Department.

He was placed on administrative leave in November after evidence the department collected disappeared. 

The case is being investigated by both the Spencer Police Department and the West Virginia State Police.


An officer with the Spencer Police Department confirms that Matthew Williams, a member of the SPD and current sheriff-elect of Roane County, has been put on administrative leave after evidence the department collected disappeared. 

The situation is being investigated both internally and by the West Virginia State Police. 

At this time, officials with the Spencer Police Department are not releasing what type of evidence went missing. 


The Spencer Police Department in Roane County, WV is conducting an internal investigation after some evidence they collected disappeared.

Terry Williams, Mayor of the City of Spencer, says a member of the police department has been put on administrative leave as a result of the investigation. 

An outside police department has also been contacted to further look into the actions of that police officer. 

At this time, the type of missing evidence is unknown.
