We have been in contact with WV American Water throughout the night and this morning. They have provided us with a map, which we have included with this story, to show who all is impacted by this water outage. Below is the news release they provided WOWK.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
West Virginia American Water crews are working to redirect water to areas west of Dunbar along both sides of the Kanawha River following a break on a 36-inch water main at the system’s West Relay pumping station in Dunbar this evening. Customers in the company’s Kanawha Valley system west of Dunbar and South Charleston, including St. Albans, Nitro, Institute, Cross Lanes, Poca, Winfield, Eleanor and Buffalo have the potential to be impacted by this break. All customers in this area are asked to limit all non-essential water use until further notice.
Response efforts are ongoing and operational impacts are likely to change throughout the next few hours. Crews will work around the clock to maintain water service to as many customers as possible while working to bypass the pumping station. Customers in the higher elevations will be impacted before customers in lower elevations.
