Rob Macko joined the WOWK 13 News Team as an anchor of 13 News at 5, 6, 7 and 11 in September of 2019. He comes to Charleston from Lafayette, Louisana, where he was the main anchor at KLFY-TV for five years.
Rob grew up in North East, Pennsylvania, a small town outside Erie, and is a proud graduate of Penn State University (Go Nittany Lions!) He has been working in television news since 1995, making stops in Savannah, Georgia, Buffalo, New York, Rochester, N.Y., Erie, Pa., Greensboro, North Carolina, Harrisburg, Pa., and Binghamton, N.Y.
While in Louisiana, Rob did a series of popular transportation stories and covered several events that made national news, including the Lafayette Grand Theater shooting in 2015, the officer-involved shooting death of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge in 2016, and the August 2016 floods that devastated parts of South Louisiana.
In Savannah, Rob uncovered problems with emergency response times after the tragic death of a young boy in a neighborhood swimming pool. His persistent reporting forced government officials to re-examine jurisdictional boundaries, emergency policies, and rapid suburban growth.
In another series of stories, Rob’s reporting prompted leaders in one county to make changes on a dangerous road. He was also a live guest on CNN in August 2012 to talk about a courtroom outburst in a soldier-led anti-government militia made up of soldiers from Fort Stewart, Ga.
Rob has covered visits to Louisiana by President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Vice President Joe Biden. He also covered visits to Savannah, Ga., by President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Rob received a Louisiana Associated Press award for a story he did on the legendary Dockside Studio, which has hosted hundreds of musicians over the years such as B.B. King, Dr. John, Sammy Kershaw, and Mark Knopfler.
He’s also a TV and movie buff and has appeared as an extra in the TV show Royal Pains, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
Rob enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, watching sports, playing guitar, finding new restaurants, and exploring all that the Charleston and Huntington areas have to offer.
