Sam DeCoste joined the WOWK 13 News team as a multimedia journalist in February 2023. His broadcast journalism career kicked off behind the scenes in Boston during his college years, where he was a writer for 7News WHDH, and later a Broadcast Associate for NESN, working on the broadcast crews for the Boston Red Sox and Bruins.
Sam was born in Rochester, New York, but grew up in Princeton, New Jersey. He studied communications and journalism at Emerson College in Boston and graduated in December 2022. While at Emerson, Sam was the News Director for the student-run broadcast news station on campus, a play-by-play commentator for Emerson basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball, and the executive producer and host of a live studio sports debate show. For the latter, Sam was awarded “Outstanding Sports Program” by the National Student Production Awards in the Boston/New England chapter in 2022.
When Sam isn’t reporting, he spends his spare time singing, playing saxophone, traveling, playing video games, and going bowling. Sam is also a sports fanatic, especially football and soccer. Sam’s favorite team to cheer for is the Buffalo Bills. His mother’s side of the family originally hails from Argentina (home of the World Cup champions), which ignited Sam’s love for soccer.
