Valley Park in Hurricane, WV set to open May 26

HURRICANE, WV (WOWK) - A multimillion dollar renovation to Valley Park in Hurricane, WV is just weeks away from completion.

"You know this is going to be a place for everybody in the county to come and enjoy," said Putnam County Parks and Recreation Director Jarrod Dean while giving a tour of the facility.

There is a brand new playground.

"It offers all inclusive play," Dean said. "We also have a ninja warrior obstacle course. This and our 40 yard dash has laser equipment in it so it will clock your speed."

There are new baseball fields and an updated soccer field that will also host lacrosse games.

"This field is bigger than the one that was here previously so we had to make the lines bigger," he said. "We also put in 3 new tennis courts as well."

In addition to hosting huge sporting events Dean said dozens of people have already booked special events at the new community center.

There is a full kitchen inside the building as well as a new kitchen for the Wave Pool concession area.

The renovation comes with a price tag of around $15 million.
There will be a ribbon cutting May 21 at 5pm.

The park will be open officially May 26 just in time for Memorial Day. The park will remain closed to the public until that time.
