BLUEFIELD, W. Va. (WVNS) — A Mercer County man is charged with first degree sexual assault after police said he performed sexual acts on a 5-year-old.
25-year-old Mason Edward Bishop from Bluefield was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 and is in the Southern Regional Jail on two felony charges after the alleged assault happened earlier in the month.
According to court documents, Bishop was staying at the home of the 5-year-old’s father when he took her down to the basement and performed oral sex on her. The victim told her mother about the assault, who then called police. The victim was then taken to a local hospital for a sexual assault exam.
Officers with the Bluefield Police Department responded to Bishop’s home on the 2000 block of Washington Street to question him. They said he changed his story several times and eventually admitted to performing sexual acts on the young girl. He told police he did it because he was “sexually curious.”
Bishop is charged with sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or person in a position of trust to a child and sexual assault. He’s being held on a $20,000 cash only bond.
