Child hit by car while coming home from school

Green Valley, WV (WVNS) – Mercer County deputies said a 5-year-old girl is “lucky to be alive” after she was hit by a car crossing several lanes of traffic on Route 460.

It happened on Rainbow Road in Green Valley around 3:30 p.m. Deputies said the girl was supposed to stay on that road after getting off of the bus, but when she spotted her parents’ car parked across the road, she crossed the highway without looking and was hit.

The girl was taken to a nearby hospital with cuts and bruises.

The driver of the car that hit the girl was not cited.

The Mercer County Sheriffs’ Department, Princeton Rescue Squad, and Bluefield Rescue Squad responded to the scene.
