Hurricane, WV man charged after being found slumped over center console along I64

PUTNAM COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - A Hurricane, West Virginia man is charged with DUI and obstructing and officer after troopers found him slumped over his center console along I-64.

It happened around 11 a.m. on Friday, March 23.

According to court documents, troopers were responding to a 911 call from a passing motorist.  That trooper arrived on scene, and spotted the man in his vehicle.

The trooper knocked on the window to check on him, and the man raised up.  That's when the trooper spotted two needles in the man's lap.

The trooper told the man to open the car door multiple times, the criminal complaint states.  The man refused, and attempted to hide the needles.  He did eventually unlock the car door, but still refused to get out.  The trooper physically removed the man from the car, and at that point, noticed a large hunting knife wedged between the driver's seat and center console.

The trooper placed the man in handcuffs.

Shortly afterward, the trooper was able to identify the man as Johnnie C. Comer.  The trooper said Comer's eyes were constricted and he was having problems maintaining conversation.

Comer submitted to field sobriety tests and a blood draw.  The results are pending.

He is being held at Western Regional Jail.
