Man dies in Raleigh County police chase

LESTER, WV (WVNS) - A man has died after leading police on a high-speed chase Friday evening. 

According to a release from the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office, Lester Police attempted to pull over a Black Hyundai Elantra. 

The driver, who was later identified as 37-year-old Michael Riley, refused to stop. 

Deputies said Riley led police on a high speed chase through Lester. He eventually lost control of his vehicle on Slab Fork Road, going over an embankment and hitting a tree. 

Riley was taken to Raleigh General Hospital where he later died from his injuries. 

The Raleigh County Sheriff's Department and West Virginia State Police are handling the investigation.
