The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department and West Virginia State Police have arrested a man in a 1981 cold case.

William Jeffries, 53, of Clarksburg, has been charged with murder in the death of Conrad Roger “C.R.” Diaz, who was seven years old at the time, deputies said.

Deputies and troopers said they re-opened the case and identified Jeffries as a suspect after reviewing the case and finding new evidence.

Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny and West Virginia State Police Sergeant Mark Kiddy said in a statement, “The collaborative effort amongst their respective departments, as well as Clarksburg Police Department and the FBI, was essential in this outcome. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the family during this difficult situation.”
