UPDATE: Victim dies of gunshot wound from shooting in Charleston

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) Update as of 5 p.m. Sept. 15 – Charleston Police officials say the second victim in last night’s shooting has died.

Lt. Tony Hazelett says Grant Patterson, 25, of Charleston died from his injuries.

The first victim, Charles Lucas, 47, of Nitro is hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg and is in stable condition.

The Charleston Police say they are now conducting a homicide investigation.


UPDATE: 9/15/2020 @ 2:55 a.m. – Two people are injured after a shooting in Charleston.

The shooting was reported around 10 p.m. on the 500 block of Ohio Avenue in Charleston.

Officers at the scene found Charles Lucas, 47, of Nitro with a gunshot wound to the leg. He is in stable condition.

Shortly thereafter, police learned of a second victim that was taken to CAMC Women and Childrens by personal vehicle.

That victim, Grant Patterson, 25, of Charleston, was shot in the head and is in critical condition.

Police have learned that Patterson was a passenger in a black Mercury Sable traveling north on Ohio Avenue. His vehicle was being followed by a white SUV, possibly a Jeep Liberty.

A suspect from that vehicle fired several rounds at Patterson’s vehicle, striking him in the head.

During that gunfire, Lucas was leaving his job and was walking to his vehicle when he was shot in the leg by the suspect in the white SUV by a stray bullet.

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — One person has been taken to the hospital following a shooting on Charleston’s West Side Monday night.

According to dispatchers, one person was shot in the hip on Monday evening. It happened just after 10 PM on Ohio St. near Lee St. Its unclear if that persons injuries are life-threatening.

Charleston Police are on scene investigating. No word on any suspects at this time.
