Huntington Police Identify Marcum Terrace Shooting Victims


The Huntington Police Department has identified the woman killed and the man injured in the shooting on Wednesday at Marcum Terrace.

According to police Joann Childers, 32, of Huntington, WV was killed in the shooting and Stephen Christopher Smith, 34, was injured.

The juvenile who was arrested yesterday is also facing malicious wounding charges related to the shooting of Smith.

UPDATE 6.14.18:

Huntington Police have arrested and charged a female juvenile in connection to yesterday's fatal shooting. 

It happened at Marcum Terrace yesterday. Huntington Police Chief Hank Dial tell us that the girl was arrested in the 100 block of 4th Avenue, and she has been charged with murder.

The suspect's identity has not been released due to her age.

UPDATE 6.13.18:

Huntington police responded to a shots fired call at the Marcum Terrace apartments, where two people were shot. Outside of an apartment, they found one adult female shot and killed. Huntington police officers believe the shooting stemmed from an argument that initially started Tuesday. An adult male was also shot and transported to the hospital for his injuries. There’s no word on his condition, but Huntington police do not believe he was involved in the argument.

The investigation is ongoing and Chief Dial says they are actively pursuing suspects. In the preliminary investigation, officers say there’s no indication that this shooting is related to the double-fatal shooting that happened on Tuesday.

In addition to HPD, the West Virginia State Police and Cabell County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene. 

Huntington Police Chief Hank Dial confirms they are responding to a double shooting at Marcum Terrace in Huntington. One of the victims has died.
