Putnam County Man Arrested for Fleeing After Fatal Accident

A Putnam County man has been arrested for fleeing the scene of a fatal accident.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Lawrence Perkins, of Buffalo, has been charged with Leaving the scene of accidents involving death or personal injury, a Felony, and Accidents involving death or personal injury, a Misdemeanor.

UPDATE: 5/1/2018 1:45 P.M.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department says the driver of the maroon truck that fled the scene of the fatality accident contacted them yesterday evening.

Chief Deputy Eric Hayzlett says the driver cooperated with the investigation into the fatality accident.

The accident remains under investigation and the PCSD says they anticipate charges will be brought against the driver in the future.

UPDATE: 4/30/2018 9:08 P.M.

Police have released the identity of the victim involved in the fatal accident on US 35 earlier today.

Officials say Phillip Cartee, 67, of South Webster, OH, was pronounced dead at the scene after a truck collided into his vehicle, causing him to drive into a power pole. 

A passenger in Cartee’s vehicle sustained injuries but was alert when crews arrived on the scene.

Police are searching for the truck involved in the accident. They say it is burgundy in color and was last seen traveling north on US 35 towards Pt. Pleasant. 


The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a maroon truck after a fatal accident on US 35 this afternoon.

According to Chief Deputy Eric Hayzlett, one person was killed in the accident, and the vehicle that caused the accident, a maroon pickup truck, fled the scene.

The multi-vehicle crash happened on US-35 Northbound at the Mason County line.
