The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office says a sex offender has been arrested after impersonating a police officer.

The VCSO says they received a call on Sunday, April 8th, 2018 saying a man used red and blue lights to pull over a vehicle at Lake Alma State Park. The caller told them that the man had a badge, radio, and handcuffs. The suspect got the driver out of the vehicle, but after a short conversation, the man let the driver go.

The Perry County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Byers, 22 of Albany, OH during a traffic stop on Wednesday, April 11th, 2018.

According to the VCSO, Byers is a registered sex offender in Athens County, but he had been living in Vinton County.

Byers has been charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. The VCSO says charges of Kidnapping and Impersonating a Police Officer will be forwarded to the Vinton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.

He is currently being held at South Eastern Ohio Regional Jail.
