PARKERSBURG, WV (WOWK) – The Parkersburg Police Department has arrested a man after finding his dad’s body in a bedroom.
Officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Liberty Street in Parkersburg, WV on Thursday, January 25th, at around 4:25 PM.
Officers say they found a man’s body on the floor of a bedroom that had been there for several days. Detectives and the PPD Crime Scene Technician were then called to the scene.
The son of the man whose body was found was at the home, and police say he provided suspicious information to fire department personnel and to officers on scene. The son was taken in for questioning about the deceased.
Based on the initial investigation, Detectives say they were able to determine that the deceased, James C. Hendershot, was struck by his son, James T. Hendershot, sometime last week.
Police say the father was able to get to his bedroom and barricade himself in the room where he died. Investigators say the temperature inside the home was 58 degrees and that the son had been staying at the home.
At this time, police do not know the cause or manner of death and the State Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on the deceased.
The son, James T. Hendershot, will be charged with one felony count of concealing a deceased human body. Additional charges could be forthcoming as the investigation is ongoing.
His bond was set at $100,000 and he is being held at North Central Regional Jail.
