Two arrested for felony child neglect in Fayette County

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - The Fayette County Sheriff's Office has arrested two people for child neglect after they responded to a Health & Welfare Check involving a 2-year-old.

According to a release, deputies found the pair and child at the Hillcrest Motel in Lookout, WV.

Deputies say the child was found with a serious head injury and other signs of alleged abuse and neglect.

The child's mother, Miranda Lilly, 34, of Ansted, and her roommate, Jesse Springstead, 35, of Lookout, were arrested and charged with child neglect creating risk of serious injury.

They were both transported to Southern Regional Jail after failing to post a $40,000 bond.

Deputies say that Lilly and Springstead used meth in the presence of the child.

The child was taken to a Charleston hospital due to the severity of its condition.

"This poor child is in pretty bad shape, we pray that it makes a full recovery. It's a shame that children have to suffer this way, and we will try everything possible to make sure this baby will not be exposed to this again," said Sheriff Fridley.

Additional charges are pending.

The incident remains under investigation by detectives with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, with assistance from Child Protective Services and the Child Advocacy Center, Just for Kids.
