A West Virginia man has been charged in a triple murder that happened in Martin County, Kentucky at the end of March.
Kentucky State Police say this case was presented to the Martin County Grand Jury today.
Lance Ward, 28, of Williamson, WV was charged with three counts of murder and two counts of robbery.
Ward is currently incarcerated at Southwestern Regional Jail in West Virginia on unrelated charges.

Kentucky State Police say they’re inching closer to finding the person responsible for the murders of Amber Lockard, Micah Sammons and Derek L. James. After three bodies were found in Warfield, KY on Friday, detectives spent the first few days searching the area where the bodies were discovered. However, now they’re investigating about 20 miles away, in Williamson. The Williamson area stretches across both Kentucky and West Virginia.
“Down into Williamson, they have found some information that I understand is going to be a very good lead in this case,” said Trooper William Petry, Public Affairs Officer for Kentucky State Police Post 9. “They are processing the evidence and they are looking at a lot of video that they have found that has given us very good leads into the investigation.”
Trooper Petry told 13 News that at the original crime scene, not much evidence was found besides the bodies. New leads shifted their focus to the Williamson area.

The third victim in last week’s fatal shooting on the Martin-Pike County line has died this morning.
According to the Pike County Coroner, Amber Lockard, 30, passed away this morning.
No other information is available at this time.

A third person has been identified in a murder investigation. Two are dead and another is in critical condition. That victim is Amber Lockard from Huddy KY.
Investigators are not saying what happened to the 30-year-old or what injuries she has suffered. Detectives have been conducting interviews, and collecting evidence. No suspects are being named in the investigation.

Two of the victims from the scene in Martin County have been identified.
Micah Sammons (20) from the Kimper area and, Derek L. James (26) from Huddy, both in Pike County.
The third victim’s name has not been released and remains in the hospital in critical condition.
More information is expected on the investigation and will be released as it develops.

Upon arrival of the first Trooper, it was confirmed one person was still alive and needed medical attention. The person was transported to a hospital in South Williamson, KY.
Kentucky State Police Detectives are now on the scene and are continuing to investigate.
