Woman Arrested for Giving 1-Year-Old Son to AEP Workers in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - A woman has been arrested for giving her 1-year-old son to American Electric Power workers in Jackson County.

West Virginia State Police say that at around 3 PM on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 they were dispatched by Jackson County 911 to the area of 13 Cedar Hills Trailer Park in reference to an abandoned child.

Once State Police got there, they were met by workers from AEP who had a child who was approximately one-year-old.

The workers said the mother of the child, Myra Green, 26, of Ripley, WV, had walked up to them and handed the child to them and walked away.

While on troopers were still on scene, Green returned and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown drug.

State Police say Green could not provide basic information about herself or her child.

Phil Moye, Spokesperson for AEP, said, "AEP employees contacted authorities and cared for the baby until child protective services came."

Green was then arrested and charged with child neglect. Child Protective Services was contacted and has custody of the child.
