Schools Close in the Wake of Pension Reform Bill Passage


LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Schools across Kentucky are canceling classes on Friday as a pension reform bill advances to Governor Matt Bevin’s desk.

So far, Pike, Johnson, Martin, schools in our region have decided to cancel school.

This comes as the Kentucky Legislature passed Senate Bill 151, which is a pension reform plan many educators voiced fierce opposition toward.

It is unknown at this time if teachers are planning a long-term work stoppage.
