WOOD COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A man is under arrest for child abuse by a parent after an 11-day-old infant was found with fourteen fractured ribs and hemorrhaged eyes.

Parkersburg Police responded to 800 Garfield Avenue at WVU Medical Center in reference to a report of serious injuries on an infant.

Police spoke to ER staff, who advised the victim, an 11-day-old infant, had all the ribs on his right side broken, along with a bruise around both eyes.

The suspect, Tyas Lipscomb, 19, of Washington, WV, advised he had performed CPR on the infant, after the infant stopped breathing while he was feeding him.

The infant was medically evaluated and transported to Ruby Children’s Hospital due to the injuries.

Further medical evaluation showed that the infant had all twelve ribs on his right side fractured and two were found to be fractured on his left side.

Further testing revealed his eyes and eyelids had hemorrhaged.

The injuries were later determined by medical staff to be “non-accidental”.

The infant was placed in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit).

Lipscomb revealed in a Mirandized statement that he had never performed CPR on his son, but that he had become angry and squeezed his son at least 2-3 times against his body on the date in question causing his injuries.

Tyas Lipsomb was arrest and charged with Child Abuse by a Parent causing serious bodily injury.

Lipscomb was taken to Wood County Magistrate Court and arraigned.

His bond is set  at $10,000.00 dollars. Lipscomb was transported to the North Central Regional Jail pending future court proceeding.
