People escape early morning apartment fire


Campbells Creek Drive at Wiley Road has reopened after an apartment building caught fire overnight. According to dispatchers, the fire was reported shortly after 6 Wednesday morning.

Dispatchers tell us the fire broke out at a home that was converted into apartments near the Diary Winkle. One of the four units has extensive damage, while the others have heavy smoke damage.

Several crews responded to the scene including Malden, Rand and Belle Fire Departments, as well as Kanawha County EMS and the Kanawha Sheriffs Office.

We’re told everyone in the building made it out safely and no injuries are being reported. No word on what caused the fire at this.
