Drivers are asked to avoid part of 13th Street in Ashland while AEP crews work to clean up two knocked down power lines.

According to the Boyd County 911 Center traffic is being impacted on 13th Street at Blackburn Avenue and Ramey Street in Ashland near the Ashland Community College.

A call originally came in that a transformer had blown in the area.

When crews went out to investigate during this morning they discovered a power pole had fallen into the street, causing lines to crash into the road.

Originally approximately 1,375 AEP customers were without power. Power is expected to be restored by 9 a.m.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area until AEP crews clear the scene.  They tell us it could take all day for the road to be fully reopened.
