Pikeville Medical Center hosted a press conference today to announce 10 new future medical projects that are designed to improve health care services to Eastern Kentucky.
The center sees over 450,000 patients throughout the region and board members say they rightfully deserve proper medical treatment, which is long overdue.
The Projects:
- Lab Expansion Phase 2 & 3
- Phase 1 and 2 will include a state-of-the-art laboratory with new equipment.
- Phase 3 will add consulting space and technology for the microbiology department.
- Investment: $7,000,000
- Administrative Offices/Clinical Complex/Network Headquarters
- Expand services in over 43 buildings
- Give more convenient access to patients and staff at the Cancer Center, Sleep Lab and Family Practice.
- Complete by March 2019
- Investment: $350,000
- Landmark 4th Floor/Mark II
- Approximately 45 jobs will be created.
- Complete by February 2019
- Investment: $179,386
- Coffee Shop
- Will undergo extensive remodeling.
- Will feature a national brand.
- Complete March 2019
- Investment: $1,000,000
- Primary Care Center
- Expand for Family Practice Clinic and Residency Program
- Will undergo other repurposing construction.

- South Williamson
- Complete May 2019

- Martin

- New Heart and Vascular Institute
- Setout to help center become the #1 heart institute in the state within the next two years.
- Complete August 2020
- Investment: $32,000,000
- Children’s Hospital
- Provide convenience to hundred of pediatric patients who not travel long distances.
- Seventeen state-of-the-art examination rooms
- Complete March 2019
- Phases 2 and 3 will include in-patient beds and services.
- Investment: $7,000,000
Pikeville Medical Center CEO, Donovan Blackburn said, “realize that the people of this region for years have had to send their children to Lexington, to Cincinnati, to West Virginia and those are great hospitals, there’s no denying that, but the burden that it puts upon the people of this region is unreal.”
Along with speeding up diagnostics and providing advanced medical treatment, the projects will provide hundreds of construction jobs and clinical positions.
The Pikeville Medical Center currently employs roughly 3,000 people with an average salary of over $60,000 a year.
With improved health care and more jobs, board members are more excited for the outlook.
“The people of our region. The opportunity to stay home, to have a great career, to be able to feed their family, but with heart,” said Blackburn.
