Local Produce Subscription Now Offered in Huntington

HUNTINGTON (WOWK) - What if you could get fresh produce from local farmers every week for about the cost of a haircut. Thanks to The Wild Ramp and Marshall University's Sustainability Department you can.

There's a new program called Community Supported Agriculture which allows people to get seasonal produce from farmers all over our region. You get a bag every week that has approximately $25 worth of fruits and veggies. If you happen to work for Marshall University or Cabell Huntington Hospital you can get your fresh goodies delivered to you

Lauren Kemp works for The Wild Ramp and she talked about the impact of CSA.

"We hear some stories from our customers where they find a new vegetable they like. Maybe you'll get something in the bag that you may not have ever experienced," Kemp said. "So, it's kind of experiential in the sense you get to learn about new vegetables and try new things ans I think a lot of people like it for that reason."

A typical share contains about four or five different fresh fruits and vegetables with a local value-added product, along with a recipe. The types of produce vary based on what the farmers have available. The Wild Ramp can do a month-to-month payment option or a discounted 12-week option. For the monthly option, payments need to be made the week prior to the next four week period. Payment due dates are Aug. 3, Aug. 31, Sept. 28, and Oct. 26. Cost is $100 for four weeks. Payment can be submitted at tinyurl.com/FourWeekFarmShare and must be made by the Thursday prior to the member's first harvest pickup.
