Sex Offender Arrested After Altercation at a High School Football Game

According to deputies the man tried to get a girl out of her boyfriends vehicle

VINTON COUNTY, OH (WOWK) - According to the Vinton County Sheriff, a man has been arrested in connection to a fight during a high school football game. 
On October 5, the Vinton County Sheriff's Department responded to a parent's claim that her son was involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of the high school during the game. 
According to police the son and his girlfriend were getting ready to leave the parking lot when a car pulled up honking his horn and an older male got out of the vehicle and tried to get the girlfriend to get out. The son and the male were involved in an altercation, afterwards the subject got back in his vehicle and left. Video surveillance was reviewed and the vehicle the male subject was in had circled the parking lot numerous times.
Deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle in Hamden matching the description. It was determined to be the same vehicle. Jeremy R. Maxwell age 29 of New Lexington was arrested for the incident. Maxwell was also found to be a Tier 2 Sex Offender out of Ross Co. During the arrest, Maxwell became combative and began resisting arrest and damaged a Sheriff’s Office cruiser. Maxwell was taken to SouthEastern Ohio Regional Jail for Assault, Vandalism, Obstruction of Official Business, and Resisting Arrest.
Sheriff Shawn Justice had this message for parents after the incident, "Please talk to your children about being aware of their surroundings and how to deal with a situation like this. It is also a good idea to walk in groups when out."
