New Fire Department Building to Help Save Lives for Community

CHAPMANVILLE, WV (WOWK) - Since 1954, the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department has served roughly 10,000 people. However, the fire crew has used the very same building during those years.

Realizing it was time for the department to expand, fire crews decided to give the department's building a new makeover. This decision came as the result of structural repairs being routinely done throughout the years.

However, the department receiving the funds needed for a new building had been difficult due to the struggling economy in the area, mainly due to the decline within the coal industry putting strain on both the county and on the city of Chapmanville.

Finally, in early 2017, Chief Thomas Perry Jr. commenced to set the dream of having a new station into reality.

After countless hours of planning, designing, and meeting with city officials he finally received a sparse allotment of funds combined with department allotted funds to begin.

The building of the new department headquarters began and was finished in 2018, allowing the expansion of the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department to take place.

The founding mission that is still followed today by the department is to protect lives and property of residents within Chapmanville and its surrounding communities, and with a new department building, that mission has become easier for them to serve their area than ever before.
