84-Year-Old Hospitalized After Scioto County Home Invasion

FRANKLIN FURNACE, OH (WOWK) – The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect after an 84-year-old man had to be hospitalized because he was assaulted during a home invasion.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said on Wednesday, March 27th, 2019, they received a 911 call from someone in Franklin Furnace stating someone had assaulted the resident during a robbery.

Deputies and Detectives responded along with Green Twp. EMS personnel to investigate.

The victim, Norman Gene Crace, 84, was found to have suffered some severe injuries due to the assault and was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center and later transferred to a Columbus area trauma center.

Captain John W. Murphy states that it appears the suspect knocked on the door around 10:15 am and when the door was opened instantly assaulted Crace.

According to Captain Murphy, this was an apparent burglary with an intent to steal money.

Witnesses told investigator the suspect fled on foot from the scene.

This is an active investigation and Ohio BCI & I agents were contacted to help process the scene.
