HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — Catholic Charities West Virginia’s Adult Learning Center is holding an open house Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m in Huntington.
Their aim is to reduce the impact of poverty on people in West Virginia by providing education to adults looking to take the next step in their careers in the hope of a better job.
The learning center provides all the materials, and education, free of charge.
Megan Shoub is an instructor at the Adult Learning Center and she says adult education isn’t just about someone earning a G.E.D.
Among the programs they offer are a high school equivalency certificate, a hospitality certification, a customer service certification, a Microsoft Office certification, and other digital skills.
The center can also provide assistance with resumes.
“Just having a high school diploma increases your earning potential dramatically,” said Shoub. “We like to think of [our programs] as a pathway instead of a destination.”
According to Schoub, the learning center sees anywhere from 30 to 35 people each month.
Catholic Charities West Virginia’s Adult Learning Center looks to make others aware of what they do so more folks are able to take advantage of their free services at their open house Thursday evening.
The learning center is located at 901 5th Ave.
