UPDATE: 3:30 p.m. 6/25/18

Cabell County Sheriff Chuck Zerkle says there are about 50 to 60 officers from multiple counties searching for suspect Jeremy Bartram in the West Pea Ridge area of Barboursville, WV.

West Virginia State police got a call behind the old Kmart building.

Officers confronted the individual but said he would not comply with their requests. The suspect calmly walked over to a tent in the background and still would not comply with instructions.

Authorities say he put on a backpack and, at that point, he had a weapon. All the officers secured their positions and there was a standoff, but the suspect got away from officers.

Officers then caught sight of him near the cemetery, at Ridgelawn Memorial Park. An undercover officer confronted him at the cemetery mausoleum and the officer and suspect both exchanged gunfire.

There was bullet hole damage in the officer’s vehicle but no one was hit or injured.

The suspect retreated back into the woods.

Since then, officers have had some sightings behind the cemetery and by the 4-H camp.

Sheriff Zerkle says they have the area surrounded both ways and believe they have the suspect contained within a two-mile radius between the cemetery and 4-H camp.

Sheriff Zerkle says they are using every possible resource, including WV State Police, Barboursville Police, Milton Police, and Huntington Police, a helicopter, and bloodhounds.

Sheriff Zerkle says it’s not 100% confirmed to be Jeremy Bartram, but they strongly believe it’s him because he matches the description, and the same patterns, including having a weapon, and firing shots.
