Local News

A young child and a baby have died and two others, a child and a woman, were injured after they were struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon near Hilliard.

Police say the woman and two children were struck by a car headed eastbound at about 2 p.m. when they were trying to cross Roberts Road near Hilliard Rome Road.

An off-duty EMT, who happened to be driving by the crash, stopped and immediately began treating the victims.

Two of the victims were transported to Children’s Hospital. One of the children, identified as Emily Ashbrook, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other child was treated for serious injuries.

The woman was taken to Grant Medical Center. Police said doctors performed an emergency c-section and delivered a stillborn baby. At the time of the crash eyewitnesses, Jacqueline Eppert, said she didn’t know Bronson was pregnant until they got closer.

“She turned over and everyone just started bawling. You seen that it was visible she was pregnant. She wasn’t very big otherwise. Belly wise it was all there and everyone started freaking out,” said Eppert.

She said will never forget the moment she saw all three get hit by this car.

“He just drug them. He hit them, and dragged the mom and the other little girl and finally came to a stop,” said Eppert.

She was one of many- including an off duty EMT to run over and help.

“And the little girl that was responsive she has a lot of blood coming from her head. The little girl she had a faint heartbeat. She looked dead on the scene. She was blue. She had no color,” said Eppert.

What happened on Roberts Rd., had Laurie Fracasso wanting more sidewalks, crosswalks, stop lights and stop signs.

“My condolences to this family it’s deeply heartbreaking. I want my self and community to fix this area. That way this doesn’t happen again,” said Fracasso.
