Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit on Dunbar Toll Bridge

KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – The South Charleston Police Department has identified the bicyclist who died after being struck by a vehicle on the Dunbar Toll Bridge.

On Monday, September 3rd, 2018 Around 9:15 PM South Charleston Police, the South Charleston Fire Department, and Kanawha County E.M.S. responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck on the bridge.

Police say the pedestrian, identified as Michael Brown, 30, of South Charleston, was, according to witnesses, riding a bicycle northbound on the sidewalk of the bridge when, as he approached pedestrians, rode off of the sidewalk and into the path of a southbound vehicle that was unable to stop in time before striking Brown.

Brown was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center General where he later succumbed to his injuries. It was reported that Brown was not wearing a helmet and his bike had no reflective equipment.

The driver of the vehicle, who is not being identified, is not facing any charges at this time.

South Charleston Police says the investigation is ongoing.
