HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WOWK) – Stories have a wonderful way of taking us places and three high school seniors are raising money to fund their dream.
TAG: These students have to raise $5,000 to cover their expenses and if you’d like to help we’ve made it easy for you. Simply head over to our website WOWKTV DOT COM and click on this story for information on how to do that.
Carly Mooney is a senior at Boyd County high school. She and her classmates Victoria Dawson and Justin Tackett just got word their dream is close to coming true.
“It’s going to be amazing because we get to go to Hollywood. We get this opportunity and it’s just going to be wonderful,” Mooney said.
These three seniors spent countless hours developing characters and the plot for a treatment, or a screenplay, if you will. Their story was was picked out of 40 other teams from their school. It’s called Begotten Soldier and now they’ve won a chance to get to pitch their story to producers in L.A.
They’re writing and AP english teacher, Ms. Cari Rucker, has been coaching them.
“The three that won are amazing. They’re very talented. The writing is excellent, but they are just great kids,” Rucker said.
Mooney, Dawson, and Tackett are the only students in the entire nation that are getting a chance like this and it’s because Ms. Rucker’s brother-in-law is a writing professor at the Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood.
“I’m just nobody and then this happened. [It’s] really unexpected and it just shows how fast your life can change,” Dawson said.
“When we get there it’s gonna be so much work. We’re going to be, basically, barricaded inside working the very first day,” Mooney said.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity though so I don’t care how much I have to work I have to work if I can go to Hollywood and pitch this to directors and producers it’ll all be worth it,” Tackett said.
Only time will tell if these budding, movie moguls-in-the-making get their major motion picture, but for now it’s Hollywood or bust for these three.
If you’d like more information on how you can help them get to Hollywood you can email their teacher, Cari Rucker, at email@example.com or you can call Boyd County High School.
