Cabell County Approves New Solid Waste Authority Funding

Local News

Earlier this morning, the Cabell County Commissioners approved $100,000 to be given to the Solid Waste Authority to improve and expand their recycling program.

The new funding proposal was developed August 13 after Solid Waste Authority representatives held various meetings in Milton and Barboursville.

The $100,000 was attained from the county’s economic development levy fund.

There are many ideas on the table as to what the money will be used for, such as introducing more recycle boxes across the whole county, rather than just predominantly in Huntington.

Director of Cabell County Solid Waste Authority, Mark Buchanan said, at the top of the list, they hope to introduce more recycling boxes and lower the cost of recycling for their customers, and maybe even allow for it to be free eventually.

The Solid Waste Authority board members plan to reconvene on September 11 to make a decision on just how the money will be handled along with Cabell County personnel.
