HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — The Cabell County Special Olympics were held Tuesday at Huntington High School.
Tuesday’s sunshine allowed for athletes with disabilities to participate in several track and field competitions.
Over 600 athletes came out to show off their abilities. Those athletes ranged from elementary students to high school students.
“It’s their day to succeed at something and to be like their peers and many of the schools have sent peers with them to cheer them on so it’s just a great day for them to participate,” said Karen Veazey, the director of special education.
Medals and ribbons were handed out to the talented athletes following each sporting event.
