Charleston Agrees to $175K Settlement with Jimmie Gardner

CHARLESTON,WV (WOWK) – The city of Charleston has approved a settlement for a former baseball player who spent 25 years in jail on sexual assault charges, which were dropped.

Jimmie Gardner was convicted of sexually assaulting a Kanawha City woman and her grandmother in 1987.

The US District Court vacated Gardner’s convictions in March of 2016 based on DNA testimony from discredited State Police Serologist Fred Zain.

All charges were officially dropped in September of 2016
