Charleston Police arrest stabbing suspect on West Side; victim taken to hospital

UPDATE 1/15/2019 4:17 P.M.

Lt. Autumn Davis with the Charleston Police Department has identified the vicim in the case as Jerry Gray, 69.  Davis said Gray sustained multiple stab wounds to the abdomen area. 

The suspect, Michael Haynes, 62, is charged with malicious wounding.  Haynes, Davis said, is an acquaintance of Gray’s.

Davis added that detectives have determined that the stabbing began as an argument over money that was owed.

Haynes also had a capias for an alcohol-related crime. 

He is expected to be arraigned shortly.

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Officers with the Charleston Police Department have arrested a man accused of stabbing another man on the city’s West Side.

Officers responded to Agsten Manor, along the 700 block of Randolph Street around 2:30 p.m. on January 15. 

Investigators on scene said Michael Haynes, of Charleston, is the suspect in the case. 

They added that appeared to be intoxicated. 

The scene, they said, was gruesome. 

The stabbing victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. We have not been made aware of the victim’s condition yet.
