Charleston Police investigating after pregnant victim claims suspect hit, scratched her stomach

A Charleston man is charged with daytime burglary after court documents state he broke into a home on Amity Drive March 10, 2019.

Things, according to the victim, got violent quickly.

A criminal complaint states that once inside, Kenneth Smith, 36, smacked a pregnant woman in her stomach with his open hand.

The victim then told police Smith scratched both sides of her stomach, causing visible injuries.

The complaint reads Smith then threatened to kill the unborn baby.

Smith is charged with felony daytime burglary.  He was transported to South Central Regional Jail following his arraignment.
