Charleston Police say Body Found Behind Kanawha Mall was Electrocuted

The Charleston Police Department says that it appears the man found dead behind the Kanawha Mall was electrocuted, possibly from tampering with an electrical box.

Police say at about 2:30 AM Saturday, March 30th, 2019, a deceased man was discovered behind the Kanawha Mall near Gabe’s in Charleston. He was burned beyond recognition.

According to police, the electrical box was near a garbage chute and dumpster at the rear of Gabriel Brothers.

Police say the body has not been positively identified at this time.

An autopsy will be performed by the Medical Examiners Office.

At this time no foul play is suspected.

The Charleston Police Criminal Investigation Division is handling the incident.
