People gathered Thursday for a special luncheon to learn about diabetes.

Today’s discussion was titled “Are You at Risk for Diabetes?” Speakers went over who is most prone to get diabetes including those who are obese or have an immediate family member who has it.

The luncheon is part of an on-going series by St. Mary’s The Total Woman. They teamed up with Joslin Diabetes Center to discuss pre-diabetes and diabetes.

Dietician Cheryl Rittinger talked to WOWK TV  and said getting a diabetes diagnosis is not the end of the road.

“People feel guilty about getting diabetes. They think it’s something they’ve done wrong and that’s not the case. Nobody signs up to be diabetics, but it is controllable and it is not a death sentence.”
